2. How do you approach checking your own design work before it goes for review?

A candid gap with a plan reads far better than vague "working toward it", and connecting the gap to the role shows the move is thought through.
7. Tell me about a disagreement over a technical solution and how it was resolved.
Why they ask it: Engineering judgement conflicts are routine, and the resolution mechanism you reach for reveals your professional maturity.
Show evidence-based resolution: the disagreement stated fairly (you proposed a retaining solution, a senior colleague favoured regrading; or you and a checker differed on a load assumption), the evidence each position rested on, and the mechanism: working the numbers on both options, consulting the code clause and its intent, or taking it to the principal engineer with both cases presented honestly. Include an outcome where you were wrong and glad of the challenge, because engineers who welcome challenge are the ones whose designs are safe to build. 8. Why this consultancy or contractor, and which direction do you want your engineering to go?
Why they ask it: Sector and side-of-industry fit drives retention in civils, and they are checking your move has engineering reasons behind it.
